You don’t have to put the grill away after Labor Day. We grill well into the fall when the temperature cools and it’s pleasant to sit outside. In many places summer is just too hot for outdoor meals, so autumn grilling is a welcome change.
This recipe is extremely simple: just three ingredients—BBQ sauce, Italian dressing, and chicken. I’ve tested it with several brands of BBQ sauce and find it performs best with Sweet Baby Ray’s because of its texture and sweet balance, but other store-brand sauces work well too. Different flavored sauces, like cola or Hawaiian, will shift the profile in an interesting way without complicating the method.

3-Ingredient Italian BBQ Chicken

Equipment
- Meat thermometer
- Charcoal chimney starter (if using charcoal)
- Grilling tongs
Ingredients
- 1 cup Sweet Baby Ray’s BBQ sauce (or your favorite BBQ sauce)
- 1 cup Italian dressing
- 4 boneless skinless chicken breasts
Instructions
- Combine the BBQ sauce and Italian dressing in a bowl. Stir until smooth.
- Place the chicken breasts in a resealable bag or shallow dish. Pour the marinade over the chicken, coating evenly. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours or up to overnight for best flavor.
- Preheat the grill to medium-high heat. Grill the marinated chicken about 15 minutes, turning once, until internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C) and juices run clear. Rest a few minutes before serving.
Notes

Favorite BBQ sauces to try: G. Hughes, Sweet Baby Ray’s, Stubbs, and Williamson Brothers. Changing the BBQ flavor (for example, cola or Hawaiian) will adjust the final taste while keeping the recipe simple.
