This Wild Blueberry Cobbler Smoothie is a delicious way to start your day.
Full of the natural goodness of wild blueberries, it’s likely to become one of your favorites.
Blueberries are a familiar and valuable ingredient for anyone following a Trim and Healthy eating style. They’re versatile, nutritious, and fit well into many meal plans.
I like to keep precooked oats ready from an Instant Pot batch I make at the start of the week. Soaked and prepped oats make smoothies like this Wild Blueberry Cobbler Smoothie quick and easy to assemble. Having these simple, energizing meals and snacks prepared helps keep my day on track.
There are two main types of blueberries you’ll encounter: cultivated and wild.
Cultivated Blueberries are what you commonly see in the produce section. While they offer health benefits, wild blueberries are an excellent choice and are usually available in the frozen foods aisle.
Why Wild Blueberries Are Special
A More Intense Flavor
- Wild blueberries tend to have a more concentrated, complex flavor than cultivated varieties.
- The plants grow naturally and are genetically diverse, spreading across fields called barrens.
- This diversity produces berries with a delightful balance of tart and sweet notes.
Have you ever picked wild blueberries?
Leader in Antioxidants
- Wild blueberries have roughly twice the antioxidant capacity of larger cultivated blueberries.
- Research suggests potential health benefits from wild blueberries for gut health, blood glucose management, cancer prevention research, and brain health.
It’s one reason they’re often nicknamed “the brainy berry.”
Frozen at Harvest
- About 99% of the wild blueberry crop is frozen at harvest.
- Individual quick-freezing (IQF) locks in nutrition and flavor, preserving peak quality.
- This makes wild blueberries easy to keep on hand and use year-round.
Unique Heritage
- Wild blueberries are truly wild — they are not planted but grow naturally in barrens and fields in Maine and Eastern Canada.
- These berries have persisted in the landscape for thousands of years.
- Look for packages labeled “Wild” in the frozen fruit section to be sure you’re getting the true product.
