How To Make Seattle Dogs
Begin by thinly slicing one large yellow onion. A sweet white onion can be used, but I prefer yellow for its flavor. Choose the onion you like best.

In a large skillet, melt 4 tablespoons of butter over medium heat. Add the sliced onion and cook, stirring occasionally, until the onions turn a deep golden brown and their natural sugars caramelize. This can take 15–20 minutes depending on heat and pan.



While the onions caramelize, prepare the buns. Spread the remaining butter on cut sides of the hot dog buns. Using a hot grill or skillet, toast the buns butter-side down until they are golden and slightly crisp. A quality bun enhances the final result.

Grilling and Preparing Hot Dogs
Using a sharp knife, make shallow crisscross cuts along the top and bottom of each hot dog. This creates a decorative “diamond” effect as the cuts open during cooking and helps the hot dog brown evenly.

Grill the hot dogs over medium heat for 5–10 minutes, turning occasionally, until they are nicely browned.
To assemble: spread softened cream cheese on both the top and bottom of each toasted bun. Place a generous scoop of the caramelized onions on the bottom bun, add the grilled hot dog, and finish with a ribbon of Dijon mustard.

Ingredients
- 4 hot dog buns
- 4 all beef hot dogs
- 1/2 cup softened cream cheese
- 8 Tablespoons butter
- 1 large onion, thinly sliced
- Dijon mustard, to taste
Instructions
