A quick and simple matcha chai latte made with almond milk, matcha powder, chai tea, and cinnamon. Vegan-friendly and naturally low in sugar.

This recipe first appeared in 2014 and has been updated for clarity and ease.
Before coffee became my go-to, chai lattes were my favorite—sweet, warmly spiced, and perfect for cooler days. I developed this version by combining that cozy chai flavor with vibrant matcha. It’s not a traditional chai or a classic matcha, but a balanced blend for when you want both in one cup.
This latte is quick to make, uses simple ingredients, and works well hot or iced. It’s adaptable to your preferred milk and sweetener, and you can increase or reduce the matcha for a milder or stronger green tea note.
What makes this latte delicious & healthy
- Hot water to steep the chai
- Chai tea bags for warm, aromatic spice
- Matcha green tea powder for color and antioxidants
- Stevia or your preferred sweetener to taste
- Almond milk or any milk alternative for creaminess
- Cinnamon for garnish and extra warmth
How to make this matcha chai latte
In a small saucepan, bring ¼ cup of water to a boil, remove from heat, and add 2 chai tea bags. Steep for 2 minutes, then remove and discard the tea bags. Whisk in ½ to 1 teaspoon of matcha powder until smooth and set the mixture aside.

Pour 1 cup of almond milk (or your preferred milk) into a jar or microwave-safe container with a resealable lid and warm it in the microwave for 1–2 minutes, or until heated. Add 1–2 teaspoons of stevia or another sweetener, secure the lid, and shake vigorously for about 30 seconds until foamy. If you have a handheld frother, use it to froth the milk instead.
Pour the matcha-chai mixture into a mug, add the frothed almond milk, and finish with a sprinkle of cinnamon. Serve immediately.
Pro Tips
- This latte is lovely iced—prepare the matcha-chai concentrate, chill it, and pour over ice with cold milk.
- If you prefer natural sweeteners, honey works well if you don’t need the recipe to be vegan.
- No frother? Warm the milk in a jar, seal it, and shake vigorously to create foam.
FAQs
Can you reheat this latte?
Yes, you can reheat it, but it will lose the fresh foam and the texture won’t be the same as when freshly made.
How much caffeine does this latte have?
An estimated caffeine amount for this latte is about 120 mg if you use two chai bags and 1 teaspoon of matcha. Actual caffeine will vary with the brands and quantities you use.
